The bishop of Cahors Géraud (1068-1083) gave several churches to the priory of Carennac, including that of Rignac and therefore, it is believed, that of Alvignac which is its annex; Father Clary adds, according to the notes of Edmond Albe, that a new church in 1267 became the main part of the present church. The interior elevations of the second bay of the nave show two large arches whose apparatus of small squared rubble evokes the eleventh century, while their broken layout would be in favor of a later dating. The church was largely rebuilt in the late 15th or early 16th century. The bell tower and side aisles were redone in 1880 and 1886 (Clary, 1986), in the late 15th century style; the stained glass windows are dated 1887\. The church has a square apse and a nave of four unequal bays flanked by two collaterals of two bays; a square bell tower is attached to the north, at the western end of the nave.
