When he wrote Les tableaux d'une exposition pour piano in June 1874, Modest Mussorgsky transcribed into music the emotions he felt in front of the paintings of his friend Viktor Hartmann, close to the group of five, who died a year earlier.
«Sounds and ideas hang in the air, I gobble them up and stuff myself with them, and it’s hardly time to scribble them on paper.» The transitions are good (in the shape of a walk). I want to achieve this as soon as possible and with a firm hand. You can see my moods in the interludes...'

A true "musical stroll", this masterpiece will be performed by the Solis Quintet, Wind Quintet of Hauts-de-France, accompanied by Amaury Breyne on piano, in a transcription for sextet by David Walter.

Lorsqu'il écrit Les tableaux d'une exposition pour piano en juin 1874, Modest Moussorgski retranscrit en musique les émotions qu'il a ressenties face aux tableaux de son ami Viktor Hartmann, proche du groupe des Cinq, décédé un an auparavant.
« Les sons et les idées planent dans l’air, je les gobe et je m’en goinfre, et c’est à peine si j’ai le temps de les griffonner sur le papier. Les transitions sont bonnes (en forme de promenade). Je veux réaliser cela au plus vite et d’une main ferme. On aperçoit mes états d'âme dans les interludes...»

Véritable « déambulation musicale », ce chef-d’oeuvre sera interprété par le Quintette Solis, Quintette à vent des Hauts-de-France, accompagné d'Amaury Breyne au piano, dans une transcription pour sextuor de David Walter.

Toen hij in juni 1874 de schilderijen schreef voor een pianotentoonstelling, transcribeerde het bescheiden Mussorgsky in muziek de emoties die hij voelde in het gezicht van de schilderijen van zijn vriend Viktor Hartmann, een goede vriend van de groep van vijf, die een jaar eerder was overleden.
"Geluiden en ideeën zweven in de lucht, ik krijg ze en ik krijg ze, en ik heb nauwelijks tijd om ze op papier te zetten. Overgangen zijn goed (in de vorm van een wandeling). Ik wil dat zo snel mogelijk en met een stevige hand bereiken. Men ziet mijn stemmingen in het intermezzo...
