Free visit of the medicinal plant garden and the toxic plant garden of the Cloître des Récollets
Located in the historic heart of Metz, the garden of medicinal plants has 89 different species. They all have traditional therapeutic properties recognized by the Ministry of Health and scientifically proven (listed in the French or European Pharmacopoeia). In fact, this garden revives its original vocation that is to say the cultivation of medicinal plants used by monks in the Middle Ages to treat themselves.
The garden of toxic plants presents dangerous plants that serve as raw material for the pharmacy to prepare medicines. Poison in high doses, they contain substances that, in low doses, will become drugs prescribed by doctors.
The forty toxic plants are presented according to the therapeutic indication of the drugs derived from them. Other non-toxic plants interesting for their medicinal properties also find place in this garden.
