About the location

Maison Jean Monnet
7 Chemin du Vieux Pressoir 78490 Bazoches-sur-Guyonne
  • Yvelines
  • Île-de-France
In 1945, Jean Monnet bought a picturesque cottage, the Houjarray House. The charm and location of this house suited his habit of thinking in nature and walking in the woods early in the morning. In this house nestled in the lowlands of the Ile-de-France, he talked about the future of Europe with the highest officials of his time. In 1950, together with his colleagues, he drafted the historic declaration that Robert Schuman would send to Europe, proposing the creation of the ECSC and thus laying the foundations of the European Community. Jean Monnet died at his home in Bazoches on 16 March 1979.
