Masterpiece of the architect Germain Boffrand, the castle of Haroué has remarkable gardens. They include a French part made in 1957 by Marc de Beauvau-Craon and his landscape friend Emilio Terry. A grove designed in the eighteenth century and including paths arranged in stars around a basin also offers opportunities for unusual walks.

About the location

Château et jardins de Haroué
Place du château, 54740 Haroué

The castle of Haroué was built by the architect Germain Boffrand for Marc de Beauvau (1676-1754), close to the duke Leopold. The architect wanted to make it the symbol of the time that passes with its 365 windows, 52 chimneys, 12 towers and turrets and 4 bridges crossing the moat. The decoration was largely entrusted to eminent Lorraine artists: Pierre Barthélémy for the grilles, the balconies and the staircase, Barthélemy Guibal, sculptor of the fountains of the Place Stanislas in Nancy, for the statuary. Visitors can also admire a Chinese lounge and pieces of furniture originally ordered by Louis XVIII for his favorite, the Countess du Cayla, whose daughter married a Prince de Beauvau-Craon. The French-style park was designed by landscape architect Emilio Terry.
