Designed to awaken the senses and make everyone discover the diversity and richness of the world of gardens, «Rendez-vous aux jardins» highlights since its inception in 2003 the art of the garden and the essential role it plays for our well-being, both in cities and in rural areas. The Château de Bournazel is proud to participate in the twentieth event on the theme «The five senses in the garden». Guided tours of the garden will be organized at regular intervals during the afternoon on Sunday 2 June.

Château de Bournazel et son jardin

The gardens of Bournazel Castle were created in the Renaissance by the sponsors of the castle, Charlotte Mancip and her husband Jean de Buisson. Their drawing was made by the architect who intervened during the second campaign of works from 1545.
The result of a well-researched geometric research, their layout takes on the proportions of the large façade of the east wing. They consist of two distinct spaces. On the one hand the orchard and on the other hand the “enclosed garden” which is limited by a large stone wall and which contains flowered and cut flowerbeds, a labyrinth, fountains, a large room of water and a garden of bedrooms.
Beyond the geometry of the composition, the 9 flowerbeds of the «closed garden» evoke, in fragments, the personalities of the two inventors of this magical place. Each parterre refers to symbolic correspondences as practiced by the men of the Renaissance. The garden became an allegorical journey in which a very clear message about the education of a princ
