Bambousaie du Mépas
12, route d'Épernay, Fismes, Marne, Grand Est
Little known, the Bambousaie du Mépas is home to thousands of bamboos in a property of 15,000 m2\. An obviously unique site born from the will of Jean-Marie Hury. “It was first my father, a soldier in Indochina in 1946, who was very impressed by the bamboo he observed there. Later, in the 70s, friends made me discover the bamboo grove of Anduze and it was from this moment that I decided to acclimatize bamboo in the Marne.” For more than five years now, this retired public servant has been sharing his passion with as many people as possible, opening up his strange plantation to both students and the curious. Visitors, through a guided tour, can discover fifty species of bamboo, the largest reaching up to 8.5 centimeters in diameter and 16 meters in height, but also all kinds of products from this plant that can grow by 20 centimeters in a single day! Unusual and exotic.
