Parc de la Plate-forme Romaine
335 avenue du 15e corps 83600 fréjus
- Var
- Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur
Known for its 17th century plans and excavated as early as the 19th century, the Roman platform is undoubtedly one of the most famous archaeological sites in Fréjus.
The remains, very levelled, reveal a domus with monumental dimensions (more than 6000 square meters) which enthroned at the entrance of the Roman agglomeration.
The function of this building divides archaeologists: was it a palace belonging to a private figure or a public building that played a role in imperial politics? Anyway, it was a major site that marked the urban landscape considerably.
The platform site will soon be highlighted and will be accessible by guided tour.
