About the location

Jardin de Kofu
3 avenue du Stade Nautique, 64000 Pau
  • Pyrénées-Atlantiques
  • Nouvelle-Aquitaine
The garden of Kofu, or Garden of Serenity, was made from plans provided by the architect of the city of the same name, twinned with Pau since 1977, respecting the principles of the art of Japanese gardens. In the heart of the city of Pau, the garden is home to a great diversity of azaleas, camellias, small beech trees, cypresses and spruce trees cut in bonsai, as well as large sequoias. The stream bed that runs through the park is made up of stones imported directly from the Pyrenees whose heights overlook the city. Inaugurated in 2005 by the mayor of Pau and his Japanese counterpart on the occasion of the thirty years of twinning between the two cities, the garden only opens to the public in 2012, after restoration. Pau is one of the most flowering cities in France and as such holds the "4 flowers" for many years.
