From the ground up
As part of the festival Quinzaine Photographique Nantaise.
Invited by the Regional House of Architecture, Sébastien Pageot addresses space and architecture and proposes a reflection on the confrontation between documentary reality, the visual proof that photography brings, and the subjectivity of the subject matter inherent in the artist’s test.
Sébastien Pageot is giving us our attention to guide us in his observation of our relationship with the environment, and how we build the world around us according to our needs, our aspirations.
The «Constructions» thus appear as pieces of tight framed decors that testify, lying helping, to the manufacture of buildings and urban furniture that invade our world.
Sébastien Pageot’s spaces are not always identifiable, but we always recognize something, something that surrounds us. Far from the spectacular, the flamboyant, the process is not artifice. The point of view is sovereign, it composes its graphic universe. The process is simple, almost rudimentary. Sometimes a few pieces of cardboard cut out brought to the seaside. But the model is not essential, it is a tool. The pretence is modest and discretion is not feigned: to look at the visions of Sébastien Pageot, is to accept to be mistaken. It creates surprise and jostles the reader, just enough to shift him towards the unchecked step: reach the message.
Make no mistake: the means is not the goal.
