For more than twenty-five years, the Cercil-Museum Memorial of the Children of the Vel d'Hiv carries out research on the history of the internment camps of Beaune-la-Rolande and Pithiviers around the Jewish deportation, and that of Jargeau concerning the internment of nomads. Between May 14, 1941 and July 1943, more than 16,000 Jews, including more than 4,700 children, were interned in the camps of Pithiviers and Beaune-la-Rolande before being almost all deported and murdered at Auschwitz-Birkenau. In 1942, eight convoys left directly from the stations of Beaune-la-Rolande and Pithiviers for Auschwitz, the other internees went through the camp of Drancy. Between March 1941 and December 31, 1945, 1,190 Gypsies, including 700 children, were interned in the Jargeau camp.
