A new gallery opens at the Palais des Beaux-Arts, dedicated to the influences of other continents on European art from the 16th to the 20th century. As the only thematic gallery in the chronological tour on the museum floor, it proposes to adapt the view that has been given so far on the works, to perceive the echoes of the distant and place them in the context of the first globalizations. Its conception presupposes a selection of works, comparisons, renunciations, aesthetic and ethical choices. It allows us to realize the biases of the collection, its strengths and its shortcomings in writing a globalized art history.

Une nouvelle galerie ouvre au Palais des Beaux-Arts, dédiée aux influences des autres continents sur l’art européen du 16e au 20e siècle. Seule galerie thématique dans le parcours chronologique à l’étage du musée, elle propose d’adapter le regard que l’on a porté jusqu’ici sur les œuvres, pour y percevoir les échos du lointain et les replacer dans le contexte des premières mondialisations. Sa conception suppose une sélection d’œuvres, des rapprochements, des renoncements, des choix esthétiques et éthiques. Elle permet de se rendre compte des biais de la collection, ses forces et ses lacunes pour écrire une histoire de l’art mondialisée.

In het Palais des Beaux-Arts wordt een nieuwe galerie geopend, gewijd aan de invloeden van andere continenten op de Europese kunst van de 16e tot de 20e eeuw. De enige themagalerie in de chronologische cursus op de museumvloer, stelt voor om de blik die we tot nu toe op de werken hebben genomen aan te passen, de echo's van de verte te waarnemen en ze in de context van de eerste globaliseringen te plaatsen. Het ontwerp veronderstelt een selectie van werken, vergelijkingen, afwijzingen, esthetische en ethische keuzes. Het maakt het mogelijk om de vooroordelen van de collectie, haar sterke punten en haar tekortkomingen te realiseren om een geschiedenis van de geglobaliseerde kunst te schrijven
