Inaugurated in 1787, the Opéra de Marseille is among the current theatres, the second large theatre built in the province after that of Bordeaux. However, the fire of November 13, 1919 spared only the exterior structures: the walls, the colonnade and the peristyle. Everything else is the work of a collective of architects and artists who realized for its reconstruction, between 1919 and 1924, the most important room of architecture typically "art-deco" existing in France.
