Free and guided tours of the Théâtre de l'Oeuvre

Saturday 16 September from 13:30

Come and discover the Théâtre de l'Œuvre, located 1 rue Mission de France, one of the last Italian theatres in Marseille. Recognized as a cultural third place and citizen since 2020, it is also an entire building, with dressing rooms, a sewing workshop, rehearsal rooms, costumes… and a story, carried by the Association La Paix, its team and its volunteers since 1931!

Aimer en Stéréo, a show by La Compagnie Nuit Verticale written by Gaëlle Bien-Aimé and directed by Marion Lévêque.

Azani V. Ebengou and Floriane Vilpont alias Clermesine, will be at the Théâtre de l'Œuvre de Marseille on Saturday, September 16, as part of the European Heritage Days 2023, to question the relationship to the territory, to our roots and to freedom.

But who is Clermesine?

Clermesine leaves her radio constantly on. Alone with those voices that spread the intense, the hope and the absurd. Alone with her lost wars and her rage to live. She is now far from a country she fought for. A country that she packed in the few things she could take with her. Poet and activist, she now lives alone in her apartment in Brooklyn. She left Port-au-Prince so suddenly that she struggles to separate the realities. Is it because she devours all the articles that mention her country? That she listens to the radio nervously passing from one frequency to another as if she was waiting for a particular news.As if something was going to happen and she did not want to miss the miracle. In the country, the radio is a visiting room, a confessional, a police station for complaints and cries of distress. She clings to those voices on which she puts a face, a life. These voices that relate the daily life in the country, that cry, shout or chant "proposed-of-crisis-solution". A medical student was abducted and released. The kidnappers demanded an insane sum of money to the point where the mother had to go on a media tour to ask for mercy. The student did not survive the abduction. Suicide. Refusal of abjection? The name of the victim haunts his icy nights in this huge bright city that exile has not yet allowed him to appreciate. Anger made her waver, she is at the edge of the precipice when she realizes that the student was kidnapped at the end of a literary evening of which she was the guest. Love poetry until facing the streets? Love poetry in a city that makes us lose words? Ultimate resistance to ignominy. Then Clermesine clings to sounds, smells and the dream of freedom. She will have to invent another life and keep her country in a poem site, a poem-memory, a poem-eternity.

Distribution

Clermesine: Azani V. Ebengou and Floriane Vilpont
Text: Gaëlle Bien-Aimé
Directed by: Marion Lévêque
Company: Nuit Verticale
Compagnie Nuit Verticale was created in 2019 by director Marion Lévêque. Since the creation of her company in 2019, she has mainly worked from texts by contemporary authors who seize our contemporary world to unravel its threads, to deconstruct the mechanisms and offer the spectator a sensitive experience that emancipates and brings nuance. Each in their own way, these authors give access to one of his imaginary "empuissantant", as Alain Damasio likes to call them, as they convey "ideas, sensations, perceptions that take us away from our habits, give power to our mutilated desires; universes that activate the desire to live differently by taking this world to body." Supporting and making visible texts by living authors makes sense today, in an environment where this word is still too rare and yet essential.
