Chapelle de l'Institution Mongazon
1 rue du Colombier, 49000 Angers
- Maine-et-Loire
- Pays de la Loire
The chapel of Mongazon presents set(group) of wall paintings(paints), example of the religious art of the XIXth century, which is still too often misread(underestimated) of the general public. Three painters' generations worked at its decoration, Simon Langlois, Stephane Audfray and Paul Audfray, manifesting the evolution of the religious painting(paint) between the end of the XIXth century and the beginning of the XXth century.
Frescoes and paintings(cloths) of Simon Langlois and Stephane Audfray deteriorate more and more over time, because the roofing in slates fulfils no more its role of waterproofness. The vault in plaster was restored in 2008, but already contains seepages of water. This monument is registered on the additional inventory of the historic furniture on August 11th, 1977.
