The Acadians constitute a community descended from French settlers in the 17th century forming the 1st French colony in North America. Expelled from 1755 by the English, they experienced deportation and exile. Some of them were forced to settle in Nantes. In 1993, thanks to the work of Bretagne-Acadie-Louisiane, a fresco was created and renovated in 2019 by Robert Dafford to commemorate this little-known episode.

Did you say Acadia? Do you know that more than 2,000 Acadians lived in Nantes, Rezé, Paimboeuf and the region between 1758 and 1785 after a long exile, and before their new departure to Louisiana? The Acadian Fresco by painter Robert Dafford is a precious testimony to this historical fact that is still too little known. If you are curious to learn more about the history of Acadia and the Acadian people, the Association Bretagne-Acadie-Louisiane invites you to visit rue des Acadiens on Saturday, September 17 and Sunday, September 18 at 4:00 pm for a guided tour in front of the fresco.
