The History Gallery mainly traces the Vendée Wars which, from 1793 to 1796, opposed the Catholic and Royal armies to the Republican forces. Particularly stands out the Room of the Generals Vendéens. The various victories, the defeat of Cholet (17 October 1793) then the Virée de Galerne, and later, the uprisings of 1815, and the odyssey of the Duchesse de Berry are evoked by paintings, weapons, documents, flags. The art gallery offers a selection of works from the 18th and 19th centuries, illustrating mythological, historical, religious, landscape or portrait themes. The painting of the 20th century offers a panorama of geometric abstraction, from Cubism to the present day, with works that illustrate one of the major artistic trends of our time.
