Through this exhibition, the Michelet Museum presents the work of comic book author Émile Bravo around Spirou, emblematic character of the Franco-Belgian comic strip. The exhibition was designed by the Centre d'Histoire de la Résistance et de la Déportation de Lyon. The Michelet Museum wanted to enrich the exhibition with many elements. The first, and not the least, is the exceptional loan granted by Émile Bravo of many original comic strips. In addition, the museum’s collections complete the exhibition, as do the collectible figurines and scenographic elements that pay tribute to the universe of Spirou.
Spirou, born under the brush of Rob-Vel in 1938, was taken over by various designers including the famous Franquin in 1947 and Fournier from 1968. In 2008, Émile Bravo brilliantly seized the story of the famous groom to make a powerful and terrible series retracing the daily life of this character during the Second World War in Belgium.
Page after page, Spirou learns to survive and fight, according to his means, against the injustice imposed by the Nazi regime. Spirou is both a witness to the horror of war and an actor in the daily struggle.
The exhibition is produced in partnership with Dupuis and Bulles de Papier.
