About the location

Église Saint-Étienne

The church is located in the centre of the village of Auriac-du-Périgord, a small village of 400 inhabitants in the heart of the Black Perigord. Its earliest origins date back to the 6th century. The present church gathers buildings dating from different centuries: while the east of the choir and the north-west pillar date from the twelfth century, the capital and the vault of the choir date from the thirteenth century. During the Hundred Years' War, the church was fortified. At the beginning of the 15th century, the facade was rebuilt, as was the portal and chapel on the north side. Finally, in the eighteenth century is built the presbytery and the footbridge that makes communicate it with the defense chamber and a sacristy attached to the bedside.
History has thus been written over the centuries within this Romanesque church from which one can see the hill of Lascaux.
Nearby are the Chapelle Saint-Rémi and Saint-Barthélemy, as well as the Château de la Faye classified as Historical M
