Guided tour of a former prison camp
Discover the most important remains in Aquitaine of a French colonial prisoner camp from 1940 to 1944, and of German prisoners from 1945 to 1948. Buried under a pine forest, this camp was uncovered after the storm «Klaus» in January 2009. In June 2011, the council decided not to replant trees in the communal forest and to make it a memorial site. An association was formed in July 2012 to restore local history. This site is still being restored. A realization of a mirador took place. During the year 2020, a historic hut was reconstructed on the site: a testimony of the conditions of the prisoners' lives. This project, matured for a long time, could be realized thanks to the volunteers of the association and the genius of the base of Mont-de-Marsan and quee of the high school Bois Haroun Tazieff. Take a guided tour on both days, starting at 10am.
