The Plô Tower, built at the beginning of the 13th century by the Viscount of Limoges, is the oldest civil monument of Saint-Yrieix-la-Perche. A symbol of the lord’s authority and power over the city, it protected the population. The provost marshal exercised his power of police and justice from the oval square at the foot of the Tower. It is to his position that refers the name of «Plô», which in Occitan means «small plateau» or «place on a high point».
