The temple was inaugurated on June 20, 1847\. The building is in neoclassical style, according to the plans of the Bayonnais architect Boulanger. It is built on the site of the ancient fortifications. The portal is decorated with a bas-relief sculpture of an open Bible. In 1859, by prefectorial decision is authorized the opening of a school street port of Castets, then in 1865, street Montaut near the cathedral Sainte-Marie de Bayonne.
