Exhibition and conference: «In the footsteps of Gustave Eiffel in Gironde»
To commemorate the centenary of the death of Gustave Eiffel (1832-1923), famous French engineer and industrialist whose illustrious achievements are internationally renowned (Eiffel Tower, Statue of Liberty, Garabit viaduct.) the Departmental Archives offer an exhibition and a conference on his achievements in Gironde.
In the lobby, enjoy the exhibition «Pont Eiffel. History of a Crossing” with a presentation of original documents on the Cubzac-Les-Ponts Bridge (Saturday and Sunday).
Sunday, September 17, 2023, at 3pm, participate in a lecture by Dominique Dussol, art historian, on the Gironde achievements of the eminent engineer. It is indeed in Gironde that the father of the most famous French monument realized his first work in 1858, the Eiffel bridge of Bordeaux which crosses the Garonne. He will return 20 years later to rebuild a bridge over the Dordogne between Cubzac and Saint-Vincent-de Paul. Duration: 1h, by reservation.
