Cloître de Marmande
Place du Prieuré, 47200 Marmande
- Lot-et-Garonne
- Nouvelle-Aquitaine
Between Agen and Bordeaux, Marmande conceals treasures. Next to the Val de Garonne tourist office, visit the cloister built in 1540, next to the south side of the Gothic church of Notre-Dame. There remains the gallery bordering the church and part of the gallery is, decorated in French Renaissance style, elegant and very varied. What adds to the charm of the place, is the discovery of the courtyard converted since 1950 into a classic topiary art garden.
Inspired by the drawings of the massifs of the castle of Langeais, it takes again the golden rules of the 17th century French gardens: harmony of proportions, size of boxwood and yew cones, balls or pyramids, central basin that takes the motifs of the gothic windows of the nave and walls of charmille that respond to the drawing of the galleries of the cloister. The terrace allows you to embrace at a glance this site that magnifies art and nature.
