Conference: The rise of women’s sport in rugby ... and many other disciplines
It took more than 19 centuries for women to legitimately begin to enter the world of sport. Today, although sport seems to be accessible to women in Western societies, women’s performance is still not recognized or rewarded in the same way as that of their male counterparts. Serious inequalities persist for top athletes, particularly in terms of remuneration. In rugby, for example, which is a highly publicized sport, women all have an amateur status and therefore receive no monthly remuneration. Margaux LABARTHE, journalist and founder of the podcast studio «Mentatù?» and director of the feminist festival «Hébé!» , will host this meeting which will highlight the following protagonists: - Julie BARENNES, coach of Basket Landes since 2019, - Torha BALDÉ, communications officer at the Stade Montois Rugby Pro and rugby player at the JSV (Villeneuve de Marsan) and the ASB (Bayonne).
