The castle was partly destroyed, with the village, by the Black Prince came to besiege, in 1369, the neighboring castle of Bourdeilles. At the end of the 15th century, there was the construction of a flanked main building, an octagonal tower between the two large round towers remaining from the original castle. In 1569, Coligny massacred 260 peasants who had sought refuge there to protect themselves from the Huguenot armies. In 1653, Antoine de Chabans, faithful to the king, besieged the castle to regain possession of the domain that his brothers, supporters of the prince of Condé, had appropriated. Restored to its walls, the marquis destroyed the fortifications and drawbridge, built a castle and stables, and laid out the terraces. In the 18th century, a low house was added, adjoining the main buildings. Other outbuildings close the north side of the inner courtyard, having retained their domestic function. In 1916, lightning ravaged all the roofs that were not restored.
