Introduction

On the occasion of the European Heritage Days of 16 and 17 September 2023, the Collège de France opens its doors from 10am to 6pm for an exceptional visit itinerary on two historical sites, which will allow to appreciate the historical richness and the diversity of its heritage.
On the Marcelin Berthelot site, the assembly room of the Collège de France, where the deliberations of its professors are held, will be open to visitors during these days. The public will be able to discover unique objects, paintings, books and manuscripts, drawn from the precious funds of the institution, and meet some professors. The tour will also allow you to discover the historical heritage of the Collège de France and its different spaces. The books of the editions of the Collège de France, signed during signing sessions by the teachers, as well as various souvenirs, will be on sale at the pop-up shop open for this occasion.
On the Cardinal Lemoine site, located a few minutes from the Marcelin-Berthelot site, the public will be able to access the garden level of the Collège de France’s Institute of Civilizations, reopened after 7 years of work. The Institute of Civilizations brings together all the chairs, laboratories and 11 research libraries of the Collège de France dealing with the great civilizations of the past, but also societies without writing. Mini-conferences given by the professors of the Institute of Civilizations will be offered, upon prior registration.
A treasure hunt organized for the young public, joining the two sites, will allow him to discover the Collège de France through a series of puzzles. The 2023 European Heritage Days at the Collège de France are taking place thanks to the support of BRED.
