Built in 1617 at the request of Catherine de Gonzague, Princess of Cleves and Duchess of Longueville, the convent of the Capuchins was considered in the seventeenth century as «the most elegant capuchin of the kingdom».
Austere at first glance, the funeral chapel of Notre-Dame-des-Anges is unique in the world and has become a real place of culture, housing the Municipal Museum of the Capuchins. Its collections tell the story of Coulommiers and its surroundings, from prehistory to the present day.
Inside the museum, there is also the exceptional Cave of Shells with religious iconography, intended to receive the burial of the duchess, unique in France and Europe.
