Discover the exciting history of the Théâtre du Châtelet in an exclusive setting! From its terrace with breathtaking views of Paris to the theater, through the fireplaces, immerse yourself in the true history of the Théâtre du Châtelet since its inauguration in 1862 until today. This guided tour takes place in groups of up to 30 people, with a speaker specializing in art history.
A few words about the history of the Theatre:
Built by Gabriel Davioud in 1862, the Théâtre du Châtelet is part of the great work of Haussmann that transformed the face of Paris under the Second Empire.
As announced by the cartridges on the ceiling of its majestic room, the place is dedicated as much to theatre as to dance, opera or music. As such, it hosted emblematic shows that mark its history today. In 1912, Nijinski danced there The Afternoon of a Wildlife on a music by Debussy and in 1917, is played Parade of Satie and Cocteau (with a horn and costumes signs Picasso). Later, other celebrities made it famous: Luis Mariano, Tino Rossi, Aznavour for the music; Patrice Chereau, Pierre Boulez or Robert Wilson for the theater. When it is not on the stage, it is in its walls that one can apprehend contemporary art: Gérard Garouste realizes his curtain and Valerio Adami the murals of his foyer-bar.
Theâtre du Châtelet is thus apprehended by its architecture, its transdisciplinary approach and its location in a district full of history in the heart of Paris.
