A HOUSE-MUSEUM In 1983, the Datcha became a museum, at the initiative of the Association of Friends of Ivan Tourgueniev, Pauline Viardot and Maria Malibran and its creator, Alexandre Zviguilsky, literature researcher at the CNRS, passionate about the writer, the place and its literary history. In this charming place, in the middle of the woods, next to the house of the Viardot, met great names of literature and arts like Guy de Maupassant, Alexandre Dumas, Alphonse Daudet, Emile Zola, Henry James, Camille St Saens, Gabriel Fauré, as well as Russian intellectuals.

Ivan Tourguéniev, a man of Russian letters, European before the hour, was built in Bougival, on the same land as the property of Pauline and Louis Viardot, a cottage in the «datcha» style. Thus, close to his dear friends, he lived from 1875 until his death in 1883\. A member of the «Route Historique des Ecrivains» and the «Fédération des maisons d'écrivains et patrimoine littéraire», in partnership with the City, the ATVM association brings this magical place to life through visits.
