Conservatoire à rayonnement départemental Claude-Debussy - Hôtel Louis-le-Grand

This large house was built at the beginning of the eighteenth century by Claude Le Grand, procurator of the King in the provost court and descendant of a family of notables settled in Saint-Germain-en-Laye since the sixteenth century. It underwent some modifications under the Second Empire while it was owned by Monsieur de Chateaubriand. The "simple" conservatory, created in 1920 in Saint-Germain, but administered by talented musicians such as Paul Dukas, André Messager and Albert Wolf, to name but a few, will become a municipal conservatory after the war, and will be directed in 1947 by the no less talented Olivier Alain. In 1980, under the direction of Jean-Pierre Perrault, the conservatory became the École nationale de musique, de danse et d'art dramatique Claude-Debussy. In December 2006, like all institutions in this category, it took the name of Conservatoire à rayonnement départemental.
