Mobilier national

The National Furniture is exceptionally open during the European Heritage Days. An opportunity to discover the manufactures and workshops of textile creation (Gobelins, Beauvais, Savonnorie) and furniture (l'Atelier de Recherche et de Création), as well as the workshops of restoration (cabinetry, upholstery, restoration carpet and tapestry, lustrier-bronzier). Part of the collections is also visible. Three sites are open: the enclosure of the Gobelins, the building of Auguste Perret and the building of the factories. It takes 3 hours of visit to discover the 3 sites.

About the location

Le Mobilier national
1 rue Berbier-du-Mets 75013 Paris
  • Paris
  • Île-de-France
Building built from 1935 to 1937 on the site of the vegetable gardens of the Gobelins factory by the brothers Auguste and Gustave Perret. Intended to serve as a storage unit for national furniture, the building expresses Auguste Perret’s ideas on "classical modernism". The symmetrical arrangement of the building bodies around a square courtyard preceded by a colonnade illustrates the classical party; modernism finds itself in the rational functionalism of the spaces of restoration and storage, equipped with zenith lighting, and in the use of reinforced concrete, whose sandblasting on the exterior facades reveals fragments of pink sandstone. Property of the State, the site is classified as historical monuments.
