By Patricia Kalensky and Serge Reby The documentary collections of the castle include a research library, heritage libraries, documentation on the works and spaces of the castle and archives. We propose you by this visit to discover its mission of preserving the memory of the activity of the castle and a heritage still alive.
In particular, the photographer will present his work on the photographic coverage of the collections and reports on the life of the castle. The conservation areas and technical equipment will be open to visitors and a selection of archival documents will be shown. The FOLIA database (Fontainebleau OEuvres Livres Images Archives) being deployed will be shown as a preview of the launch of the documentary portal on the castle’s website.

Palace with 1,500 rooms spread out in the heart of 130 hectares of park and gardens. Residence of the French sovereigns since the 12th century, entirely rebuilt by François I who kept only the keep formerly inhabited by King Saint Louis, and had a sumptuous interior decoration executed by Italian artists under the direction of Rosso and the Primatice (group of artists known as the Fontainebleau School). Notably enlarged by Henri IV, modified from the seventeenth to the nineteenth centuries by his successors, who partly destroyed the decoration of the sixteenth century.
