The Molière fountain: presentation of the recently restored building
Among the 240 fountains that adorn Paris, the Molière fountain, built near the house where the playwright died, is certainly one of the most beautiful. The restoration of the fountain, conducted in 2022, allows to appreciate again this exceptional work, tribute to the father of all the actors. This visit will allow you to discover the history and the backstage of the restoration thanks to the explanations of a curator of the City of Paris.
Built by the architect Louis Visconti between 1841 and 1844 following a national subscription, it benefits from a remarkable carved decoration due to major artists: the sculptors Gabriel Bernard Seurre and James Pradier. The first directed the figure of Molière, while the two allegories of comedy, serious comedy (left) and light comedy (right), are the fruit of the second.
- Meet in front of the fountain, 28 rue Molière (75001, Paris).
