About the location

Maison Albert Schweitzer

Albert Schweitzer built this house in 1928 with the Goethe Prize. He returned there between his stays in Africa; it was the starting point of his tours of conferences and concerts throughout Europe, which enabled him to finance his village hospital in Lambaréné. This house is today a museum, but also a central archive with thousands of documents, and the headquarters of the International Association for the Work of Doctor Albert Schweitzer of Lambaréné, which has the role of spreading its ethics of "respect for life".
