The street where the Palace is currently located was successively called rue des Carmélites, rue des Jacobins, then rue du Bourg-Neuf, before becoming in 1851 the rue du Palais de Justice.
In 1620, a convent of the Carmelites settled in this house. Totally destroyed during the Revolution, a bourgeois house was built in its place, overlooking Grosley Street. Partially damaged by a fire, it was bought in 1851 by the department and transformed into a courthouse. The administration adds a peristyle supporting a triangular pediment with the inscription "Palais de Justice". As in the Doric friezes, metopes and triglyphs alternate under the classical entablature. The palace was inaugurated in 1861.
