The church as we know it today dates from the 12th century. Parish of the university from the 14th to the 17th century, it suffered many degradation during the wars of religion, then during the French Revolution.
In 1906, following the law of separation of church and state property, the city of Orléans became the owner of the building. Heavily damaged after the 1944 bombings, it was decommissioned and restored in 1973-1975 by the city of Orléans and became a place of exhibitions in 1976.
Since 2013, the Collegiate Church has been focusing on contemporary creation and is hosting three to four exhibitions organized in collaboration, including with artists, contemporary creation centres and galleries, alternating proposals from regional artists, national or international.
