Château
Le Château, 37290 Charnizay
- Indre-et-Loire
- Centre-Val de Loire
The first historical traces of the castle date back to the Middle Ages. At the site of the current castle there is a fortress, called the Jauget, dependent on the defensive system of the barony of Preuilly. At the beginning of the 16th century, it is in the hands of the Chateigner family then the Jauget passes by inheritance to the Ancelon family. In 1844 the castle was bought by Pauline de Montesquiou née Duroux, wife of Thierry, count of Montesquiou-Fezensac. It is the Count of Montesquiou who will give the castle its current appearance. We know this from the many photographs he took, as did his son Robert, at the castle. The castle in the heart of the 30-hectare park has been under restoration for a year.
