The prefecture hotel occupies the former episcopal palace of Mâcon, seat of the bishopric, built from 1618 to 1631. The bishops of Macon lived in this building until the Revolution.
After the removal of the bishopric of Mâcon, the building was acquired in 1791 by the departmental administration, and it was in 1800 that the prefecture settled there.
Visitors can discover the reception rooms of the Prefecture Hotel, its paintings and furniture, accompanied by guides who will explain the history and architecture of the building. Enjoy guided tours of the building, gardens and prefect’s office, as well as videos and an exhibition. This is an opportunity to play “Find and Find” for kids and participate in an adult quiz with a book to win. Saturday and Sunday from 10am to 12.15pm and from 1.30pm to 3.45pm, every quarter hour.
