The Cultural Meetings of Usson #5, end with European Heritage Days with musical visits and two recitals in the Church of St-Maurice d'Usson. On a bushy path, to the discovery of the Pantaleon – a baroque cymbalum – presented by the percussionist, specialist of this strange instrument, whose origins go back to the Middle Ages and which is very popular with our Hungarian friends… An original way to close the fifth Rencontres Culturelles d'Usson, a chamber music festival that combines the harmony of Usson heritage and the most beautiful music from the Middle Ages to the present day, with the sound of ancient instruments…
In addition, the restorer of works of art Anne Elsener, will present her work of restoration of the Tabernacle of Reyne Margot and the Equestrian Statue of St-Maurice
All events are at Free Admission, with a quest for the benefit of heritage restoration ***
About the concert
The tympanum in the eighteenth century is an instrument used in very different circles of European society - monasteries, royal courts, aristocratic salons but also in taverns! Note that the resonant and reverberated sounds of the strings struck the tympanons greatly influenced the development of the first pianofortes.
Few virtuosos of the chromatic eardrums, known as pantaleons, played scholarly music throughout the Old Continent in the Baroque age, but these were well known to the composers presented in this program; the Germans Bach and Telemann, the French Marais or the Italian Chiesa and Dall'Abaco.
On a bushy path, guided by the hammers of Nadav Ovadia caressing his eardrum, is an invitation to a musical journey inspired by nature: the flow of water from a stream, the rustling of leaves in a windy wood, the dark and cold winter night or the warm embrace of the sun on the skin in summer.
An intimidating, mysterious, pleasant, comforting and poetic nature…
Come and discover the pantaleon in all simplicity, for the European Heritage Days in the church St-Maurice d'Usson.

Biography
Nadav Ovadia, Pantaleon
Nadav Ovadia is one of the few musicians to perform and research historical European tympanons-psalters - pantaleon, tympano, salterio, dulce-melos - recreating and reviving their forgotten voices from the Baroque, Renaissance and Middle Ages, after studying with Margit Übellacker in Frankfurt.
As a Chateaubriand Fellowship Fellow, Nadav completed a Master’s degree in Early Music at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique & de Danse de Lyon, studying with Yves Rechsteiner and Pierre Hamon. He is currently starting a PhD in «Research and Practice» at the CNSMD in Lyon in connection with the University of Lyon II.
Nadav Ovadia has played tympanum in concerts in Europe, the Far East and Israel, in concert halls such as the Wigmore Hall in London, the AMUZ in Antwerp, the Casa da Música in Porto or the Auditorium in Lyon.
Invited to add the unique colors of the tympanum in recordings or productions of baroque operas, Nadav participated in television and radio shows like ARTE’s Stars of Tomorrow.
Nadav is also a percussionist and founding member of the Tremolo Ensemble, an Israeli quintet of marimba and percussion. He has performed as a soloist with chamber orchestras in Israel and Ukraine, in recitals and concerts in Israel, the United States, Central America and Europe. He also plays in movie soundtracks, theatre productions, etc…
Finally, Nadav Ovadia is a recipient of scholarships from the America-Israel Cultural Foundation.
