Visit of the municipal workshop of Passementerie
The municipal trimmings workshop is the former studio-apartment of Madame Letourneau (one of the last real workshops-house of canuts of the Croix-Rousse). Soierie Vivante presents the imposing trimmings, walnut worked, present in the workshop for more than a century.
Two looms are of origin (Madame Letourneau made braids for the army on these looms), the third is a loom that made woven images. Made at the Croix Rousse at the end of the 19th century, it was used in the Loire by Monsieur Dumas, a passementier. The workshop also has an exceptional trimming trade, dating from the 1750s, which can make a ribbon using many steps. A braiding machine completes the collection of machines.
During the tour, look at the looms in front of you, understand the threads of weaving and the genius of Jacquard’s invention.
