The castle then reproduced the plan of a feudal fortress of the Middle Ages, with its classical defensive attributes: moat, corner towers, battlements. It is an important heritage, witness to the past for the Auvergne region. A few years after its construction Thomas Bohier and his wife Catherine had the Château de Chenonceau built, inspired by that of Saint-Cirgues.
Transformed in the middle of the twentieth century into a summer camp, the castle fell victim in 1990 to a fire that destroyed part of the main body of the house and its roof, sparing nevertheless the four towers, as well as the chapel. This fire was felt as a tragedy by the population, very attached to this monument. Currently owned by the municipality and its park, it was inscribed on 8 February 2002 in the supplementary inventory of Historic Monuments.
