Urban walk "Crime and Justice in Riom (late 18th century - early 20th century)"
On the occasion of the European Heritage Days and the opening of the former prisons of Riom (former detention centre and former prison), this historic walk - Co-organized by the Société de l'histoire de la révolution de 1848 et des révolutions du XIXème and the association Albin - invites you to discover the judicial history and prison heritage of Riom, the judicial capital of Puy-de-Dôme. After a walk «on the footsteps of Clermont-Ferrand» In the fall of 2022, Lisa Bogani and Sébastien Soulier invite you to delve into the history of the small and large criminal cases that Riom was the scene of from the end of the 18th century to the eve of the Great War. Popular uprisings, burglaries, murders, brawls, ambushes, escape of prisoners… Guided tour of the dark side of Riom. Walk proposed by historian.e.s Lisa Bogani, author of Vol et voleurs en Auvergne au XIXe siècle: entre «réalité» judiciaire et représentation sociale, 2020 and Sébastien Soulier, author of La chronique criminelle dans la presse du Puy-de-Dôme, 1852-1914, Varenne Foundation, 2013. Created in September 2022 by PhD students from Clermont Auvergne University, the Albin association encourages reflection on and in the prison environment and places of deprivation of freedoms for the introduction, maintenance and sharing of university knowledge.
