GRETEL WEYER "Tradition and diversion"
Gretel Weyer’s work originates in the archives of the Revol House, a bicentenary company, which has an impressive heritage consisting of 4000 linear meters of archives and more than 21,000 objects. In these archives, the artist found forms on which she relied to reinvent, prolong and divert them.
What interests him is the ability of objects to carry their own history and make us look at the past, while telling us a singular story. His desire would be to shake the established codes in the will to look at things from different angles. Question the object, deconstruct it or divert the meaning of the traditional decorative motif, play on discordances, gather and make coexist languages and different eras.
“I see this work between fiction and reality, using figurative language and an approach that might make one think of surrealism.” Gretel Weyer
