The medieval Treasury of the Cathedral of Lyon was destroyed in 1562 by the plundering of the Calvinist Baron des Adrets, plundered under Louis XIV and then plundered under the Revolution. Thus, in the aftermath of the Concordat, in the context of a new religious impulse, Cardinal Joseph FESCH, appointed to the diocese by his nephew Napoleon Bonaparte, donated part of his prestigious art collection: Byzantine capitals, Flanders and Aubusson tapestries, embroidered chasubles.

The objects of the Treasury are all protected as historical monuments.
