In 1921, Jules Formigé (1879-1960), chief architect of historical monuments, entrusted Pierre de Brun (1874-1941), botanist and geologist, with the first scientific investigations in Glanum.
Since this first official pick, more than 100 years of archaeological excavations have yielded the unique traces of an exceptionally preserved ancient shrine at the foot of the Alpilles.
Archaeologists, architects, engineers, curators have succeeded each other while excavation workers, masons and restorers have worked to develop the remains. This great human adventure contributed to the creation of the archaeological park.
