Dr Ecorchard (1809-1882) had Antoine Noisette draw the extensions of the Jardin des Plantes, built at the beginning of the 19th century by the botanist Alexandre Hectot. In the form of a landscaped park, the new Jardin des Plantes was inaugurated in 1860\. Opened to the public in 1865, it is part of the tradition of the botanical garden of the 19th century, a true conservatory of regional or exotic plants, where the principle of collection is imposed.
