Maison Boutin and its Italian-style gardens
The house has an Italian garden. Its composition takes place in fairly large groups, laid out on terraces and opening up wide perspectives. The Italian garden is characterized by its ability to exploit the surrounding landscape. The composition of the horizontal terraces with retaining walls, the use of cut vegetation screens creates escapements that frame and enhance the landscape of the Italian countryside. This method of composition, found in Italian Renaissance painting, reflects the ideal of openness of humanist thought. The relaxing presence of water, selected plants are the very principles of the Italian Renaissance garden. Minerals and plants are treated in the same way, serving the same architectural design. It expresses the vicissitudes, the difficult search for truth, symbolized by the presence of a labyrinth, the caves represent the earthly origin of men.
