Les Halles, from yesterday to today: guided tours
The transformation project of the former Alstom halls is one of the major structuring projects of the Nantes metropolis. The nerve centre of the creative district, the Les Halles project is entering the final stage of its realization this year, with the opening of the Food Hall and the delivery of Les Halles 1&2. This set of 5 autonomous projects becomes a pole of excellence of the knowledge economy (higher education, research and economic activities), but also a real place of life and culture open to all audiences.
Emblematic of the Nantes working-class memory as well as the technological innovation of the navy and mechanics, the Halles are part of these spaces that reinvent a new destiny with each great revolution: the Halles of yesterday were born from part of the industrial revolution, those of today and tomorrow will be drivers of the digital and creative revolution.
Since 2001, when the site was acquired by Nantes Métropole, the Halles have weighed on the programmatic orientation of this part of the island of Nantes. By hosting artists, creative entrepreneurs and cultural events in search of atypical spaces for nearly 10 years, they have created a strong ecosystem around culture and creation.
