The castle of Careil, little known until 1571, is a bastion of regional Protestantism in the second half of the 16th century;Its 3rd wing disappeared during a fire in the 18th century In the courtyard, the architectural arrangement and decoration of the two facades of the L-shaped house resulting from these two phases of construction express the evolution between a style still close to Gothic and a local Renaissance style: the contrast is particularly marked in the ornamental vocabulary used on the gable of the dormers.
